Africa Untitled

Africa Untitled (2009)

This is an interactive piece in which the audience members become performers. Africans represent the linear history of Africa. This history refuses to discount colonialism, and yet struggles to be free of its definitions in progressive states of post-colonialism. The audience is invited to re-arrange and rename Africa. This installation and performance was created during the year of the 125th anniversary of the beginning of the Berlin Conference, when European colonial powers divided African land amongst themselves.
