Winner of the Smithsonian first Annual African Art Award, October 28th, 2016.

 

Giving an artist talk as part of the workshop “The Discovery of Queerness. Intricate Trails of a Travelling Concept.” This workshop is part of conference in Berlin titled, “Present’s Disjunctive Unity. Constructing and deconstructing histories of contemporary cultural and aesthetic practices”, at the Freie Universität Berlin, Department of History and Cultural Studies.

 

Exhibiting drawings of a transgender man living in Canada but originally from Kenya, as part of the exhibition, Future Africa Visions in Time at Bayreuth University in Germany. This exhibition project pairs artists with social researchers together to produce a project each. The pairs have worked together to contribute toward their vision of Africa’s future. Malinda worked with sociologist Sybille Bauriedl to produce a project titled “queer volatility; indecipherable achievement of a socially utopic state”. The exhibition opens on Saturday 7th of November.

 

Exhibiting 'Mourning a Living Man' as part of the exhibition Towards Intersections: Negotiating Subjects, Objects and Contexts at University of South Africa (UNISA) Art Gallery, Pretoria. 21st May – 27th June, 2015.

 

Awarded 2015 Fellowship by the Smithsonian Institution. To begin August 2015.

 

Exhibiting recent drawings with Circle Art Agency at Art15, London. 21st - 23rd May, 2015.

 

Recent drawings exhibited at Booth B1, Circle Art Agency, at the Cape Town Art Fair. 26th February to March 1st.
